Santa Clara - Guantánamo |
Date: 29.06.2006 Train: #9; 19:04 Price: 22 CUC Trip Notes: The train pulled into Santa Clara station on-time. It was set-up the same way as train #9 on my trip from Matanzas to Santa Clara , with a Chinese locomotive and Mexican wagons. A very nice journey. Between Combinado (where the line to Guantánamo branches off the main line Havana-Santiago de Cuba - near San Luis) and Guantánamo I saw the train to Guantánamo - Costa Rica . First, I thought that it was train #88 to Guantánamo - Holguin . I was told at the front desk that train #88 is the only train going to Holguin. Guantánamo station Notes: I spent a very short time there. When I passed through the station, I noticed some German railcars there. Useful information: You can buy the ticket for long haul trains in Santa Clara at the building in opposite of the train station, across the park, there's a small office (it's not the same counter as for the local trains!). You have to show your passport and pay in CUC. Buy the ticket a day in advance or the same day but a few hours before the train's leaving. |
