Santa Clara is famous for its Che museum. It's a good stop if you're travelling from Trinidad to Santiago (it's easier than going to Guayos). But Santa Clara can also be a short trip from Habana or Varadero to know a smaller or in the case of Varadero a more Cuban city.

For people who are friend of art, Santa Clara has two excellent theatres where the good clasic scenes are encourages. This city has its own theatre company playing also interesting young novells. All the city is full of carribean bustle, fruit markets, especially the fruit market which is next to the beisbal stadium is worth to visit. The prices are of course cheaper than in Habana.

Excursiones

• If you feel the heat, 4km far from the city you can find a touristic place named "El bosque" (= the forest). There you can find a swimming pool between palm trees, some shops and of course the hotel offers also rooms. The entrence to the hotel zone is only 1 CUC.
  
  
• Another good excursion is the one from Santa Clara to Remedios (about 40km away). The people fond of architecture will enjoy the best arquitectonic village of the colonial epoch of the Island. You can go there by a collectiv taxi (one way costs about 10 Pesos) or by a private taxi (both ways and waiting will cost about 10 - 15 CUC).

How to go to Santa Clara

• ASTRO. From Habana, Trinidad, Cienfuegos, Sancti Spiritus and other important cities.
• VIA AZUL. Two buses daily from Habana and Santiago de Cuba. The bus from Santiago de Cuba stops in every province. For detailed information check the timetable!
• TRAIN. There are trains from Cienfuegos, Habana, Sancti Spiritus, Santiago de Cuba, Holguin, Bayamo (every second day) and other cities.
• Collectivos. There are collectiv taxis between near cities like Cienfuegos to Santa Clara, but also from Habana to Santa Clara. As a foreigner it maybe can get dificult to get a ride or if not dificult at least expensive! For exemple between Cienfuegos and Santa Clara the official price is about 20 Pesos (about 1 CUC), if you ask for a ride the offer can be about 15 CUC. Finally I could go paying 50 Pesos.
